Vinny Del Negro was named the 17th head coach in Chicago Bulls franchise history on June 11, 2008.

He spent two seasons with the Phoenix Suns front office, serving as Director of Player Personnel for one year, before being promoted to Assistant General Manager prior to the 2007-08 campaign … worked three seasons (2003-06) as a color analyst for the Suns broadcast teams, including color commentary on KTAR 620 AM his last two years … he has also served as an analyst for ESPN’s “NBA Matchup” and for the San Antonio Spurs.

Played professional basketball for 14 seasons, including 12 years in the NBA and two years in the Italian A1 League … while in the NBA, he played for five different teams (Sacramento, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Golden State and Phoenix) and appeared in 771 games, including 370 starts, and averaged 9.1 ppg, 3.2 apg and 2.3 rpg … played in 54 NBA playoff games, where he averaged 8.8 ppg, 2.8 apg and 2.2 rpg … among some of the coaches he played for in the NBA were: Jerry Reynolds, Dick Motta, John Lucas, Bob Hill, Gregg Popovich, Dave Cowens, George Karl and Scott Skiles … he was drafted by the Sacramento Kings in the second round (29th overall) of the 1988 NBA Draft … spent two seasons in Italy with Benetton Treviso (1990-92) … he teamed with former Bull Toni Kukoc to lead the team to its first Italian league championship in 1992 and he was named playoff MVP during Benetton’s title run … during his two seasons with Benetton, he appeared in 65 games and averaged 25.4 ppg and 4.4 rpg … was a member of the Spurs for six seasons (1992-98) and was selected to San Antonio’s 25th Anniversary Team as one of the top 25 players in Spurs history, after helping San Antonio claim two Midwest Division titles … played in four games for Teamsystem Bologna (Italy) in 1998-99 before he signed with Milwaukee … he appeared in 38 games with Phoenix during the 2000-01 campaign prior to being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team trade, but he never suited up for the Clippers.

Played four years at North Carolina State under the late Jim Valvano … finished his Wolfpack career with averages of 9.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg and 2.6 apg … helped the Wolfpack make the NCAA Tournament four years in a row, highlighted by two trips to the Elite Eight (1985, 1986) … claimed the Everett Case Award, as the MVP of the 1987 ACC Tournament, and led NC State to the Tournament championship over archrival North Carolina his junior year … named All-ACC First Team his senior season after averaging 15.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg and 3.6 apg, and he shot .515 from the field and .839 from the line.

Del Negro, 41, was born in Springfield, Mass., on Aug. 9, 1966 … his full name is Vincent Joseph Del Negro … he established the Vinny Del Negro Endowment Fund in Springfield to assist physically and sexually abused youths … his father, Vince, played collegiately at the University of Kentucky under the legendary Adolph Rupp … he is married to wife Lynn, whom he met at North Carolina State.
